Although you can start afresh and make changes at any moment you choose, the New Year tends to present itself as an obvious opportunity to take charge and give more focus to aspects of ourselves we haven’t been able to previously.

Everybody has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in one way or another and this has led to an increase in mental health issues.

In response to this, we are delighted to launch the Holistic Health Practice. Based in Newport, South Wales, the Practice – which offers both virtual and in-person sessions (although the latter depends on government restrictions) – aims to support you and your life. Services involve tailored therapies for your personality and needs, which in turn helps to build and support your innate coping strategies and your overall mental health.

Positive mental health helps us to enjoy life, have a good attitude and assists our overall wellbeing. Through the Holistic Health Practice, you will be given the tools you need to aid how you think, feel and behave. The therapies on offer are:

– Brainworking Recursive Therapy (Psychotherapy)

– Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

– Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Techniques

– BodyTalk Energy Therapy

– Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

– Reiki

Over the last year we have all had to face an array of difficulties, whether it’s: being socially isolated, dealing with concerns about ourselves or those we care about, alterations to education and employment, gaining responsibilities, or changes to general life. As a result, we find our mental health has been put under mounting pressure in order to help us overcome these new circumstances and so, it is more important than ever that we do what we can to prioritise it and better support ourselves.

When built up, stress and worry can affect us mentally, emotionally and physically. It can encapsulate many things from anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, fear and much more. Elements of stress can affect our life in all areas – work, relationships, social life, behaviour and even our physical health. It can take some time before we realise that stress has built to a point where it has become detrimental to our wellbeing and often the only time we assess a change has to be made is when we are pushed to decide ‘enough is enough’ and recognise ‘I need to stop doing this’.

It’s important to understand that your mindset is constantly on a sliding scale, and whether you feel you have positive or negative mental health, it is important you take regular time and effort to strengthen it.

The Holistic Health Practice is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives and will work with you to help you to fulfil your potential in all areas of life.

Sometimes we can find that we have to be ‘sick and tired of being sick and tired’ (Albert Einstein) of those old habits, self-sabotaging patterns of behaviour and limiting beliefs before we take that step to make a change. If you are ready to start making changes then there is no time like the present to start the process.

By using different approaches I can tailor sessions for you so that you can gain insights into your core issue/s, which can then support you in finding ways to cope more effectively with many issues and helping you to manage situations in a more productive and effective way.

Personality profiling as part of the weight management programme can, on a broader base, offer clients an opportunity to consider strengths and weaknesses and help to develop a better balance in life, as well as supporting the tailoring of therapy for specific needs. This offers another opportunity to make those changes you want to make and in understanding more about your personal characteristics and how they affect your health and wellbeing can highlight the skills and abilities you may need to master in order to better support your endeavours.

My Background

Before becoming a Healthcare Professional and qualifying as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist and Advanced BWRT® Practitioner and BWRT® Master Life Coach and Weight Management Coach my background was as an Educationalist, holding lecturing and management positions in further and higher education.

With a Master’s Degree in Education and Training I mentored and trained staff and students and learned a great deal about the complexity of people and their needs. Many people, I found, struggled with various levels of anxiety, panic, stress, and self-confidence, both on a personal and professional level.

Care and Commitment

I find it motivating to be a part of a solution that can help people make constructive changes because we all, in this complex world, at some time or another, have stressors in our lives or behaviours we would like to change. Some examples of these could include concerns or issues around work, social anxiety, public speaking, relationship stressors, self-confidence, fears, phobias, addictions or smoking, weight management, wanting to achieve a healthier lifestyle, to stop binge-eating or drinking too much…

We all have differing needs at different times in our lives and due to the changing environments we find ourselves in. The differing therapies I provide enable me to tailor therapy to your specific needs, because you are unique. All therapy is shaped to achieve, as quickly and effectively as possible, the goals and intent of the client and what they want to achieve. Therapy is about offering you, the client, the opportunity to empower yourself by getting control of who or how you want to be – to support you in recognising your own value and worth.

Objectives of Initial Consultation and Therapy Sessions

Having that initial consultation to discuss what you want and to evaluate how best to support you is a fundamental first step.

Thereafter, sessions are working towards developing the most effective and efficient way forward for you: as you are unique with your own needs, challenges, aims and goals, the sessions can vary in time-scale, depending on the specific issues you wish to address.

Sessions are blended to fit your personality, preference, and requirements. Therapy is reviewed, evaluated and realigned on an on-going basis to continually meet your presenting or changing needs. As such therapy can take one session or in certain cases and for certain issues may take 9-12 sessions, which when you think about that is 9-12 hours of one day of your life but in one-hour blocks over 9-12 weeks instead. The time-scale depends on you because therapy is about empowering you to empower yourself.

By focusing on what you do want rather than what you don’t want can make a fundamental difference to you and the way you want to think, interact and behave, whether socially, in work, or with family and friends: as Einstein said ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that created them’. Sports Professionals can recognise that mind-set is the difference between winning and losing.

Taking the first step can be the most difficult, however, there is no better time than the present to choose to start making the changes you want to make. An investment in yourself today could be one of the most important and rewarding steps you take to change your tomorrows.

If you are still wondering whether Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy or BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT®) is the right path for you then please text me on 07999905510 or email me at info@holistichealthpractice.co.uk to make an initial consultation.

In some instances when there is difficulty coordinating schedules ...]]> Recently many people have been enquiring about distance BodyTalk sessions: What are they? What do they look like? How do they work? Are they effective?

What is a distance BodyTalk session? A distance BodyTalk session is basically the same as an in-person session. Instead of the session being done in person, however, it’s facilitated from a distance. Oftentimes the appointment will be conducted by phone, zoom, skype etc or via email. In some instances when there is difficulty coordinating schedules due to differences in available times, or time zones, an audio recording of the session will be made and emailed to the client. The client can then listen to the session at their convenience.

General overview of a session:

What does a distance BodyTalk session look like? What happens? Same as an in-person session, the CBP will usually begin by asking about your health and wellness history either in a written format or verbally. They’ll also ask what your primary issues are and help you to clarify what you would like the optimal outcome of your session(s) to be.

When it’s time to receive the session, approach it exactly as if you were with the CBP in person at their clinic/therapy room. Sit down or lie down, making yourself comfortable. You can listen to the session on speaker or with earphones/headphones on. Close your eyes and relax.

Keep in mind that every CBP has their own practice style and way of doing things. Typically though there isn’t much to see or do during a session. One thing you will need to do, however, is the tapping on your head, breast bone and abdomen, which helps to reinforce the subtle energetic tapping the CBP is doing from a distance. Your practitioner will lead you through that process.

Most CBPs have taken a course offered by the International BodyTalk Association called MindScape. This class is open to the general public. Many practitioners attend MindScape because it teaches simple skills for enhancing creative outside-the-box thinking, improving mental focus and strengthening intuition – all of which are important for facilitating distance BodyTalk sessions.

The CBP will then use these MindScape (or similar) skills to focus on your bodymind. Just as during an in-person appointment, they’ll “ask” your body which areas are a priority to be addressed and which techniques are necessary. They may ask you to participate by contacting certain areas of your body and eventually they’ll ask you to do the tapping on your head, breast bone and abdomen. This continues until your body indicates it’s time to end the session.

How does a distance BodyTalk session work? To be perfectly honest, nobody knows. One reason science has had difficulty proving the efficacy of distance healing using BodyTalk or other modalities is because it’s operating outside the realm of classical physics. Instead it’s using concepts from modern physics such as quantum entanglement which come from quantum physics and working with the idea that consciousness is the substrate of all things. These phenomenon which defy the limitations of time and space have been replicated over and over again in laboratory studies, and they are so puzzling that even scientists are left scratching their heads in dismay. Even they have a difficult time explaining what they see happening with their own eyes.

If we were to provide a simplified explanation, we could say that everything is energy, and in BodyTalk we’d say everything is consciousness. When you deconstruct anything physical, you end up with molecules, atoms, subatomic particles and ultimatel, frequencies of energy. Every thing and every person has a unique frequency the same as every radio or television station has its own unique frequency. Using their MindScape skills and training, the CBP is then able to “tune in” to your unique energy frequency, access the information necessary to conduct your BodyTalk session and facilitate healing.

In a sense this is no different to sending an email or making a phone call. You have an email and phone number which are specific to you. Anyone with that information can contact you from anywhere on the planet as long as they have that information and the skills and technology to do so. In the case of distance BodyTalk sessions, the skills and technology are MindScape, intuition, and the CBPs training, experience and expertise with the BodyTalk system protocol and procedures.

Are distance BodyTalk sessions effective? In short, yes. Both clinical experience and client feedback have shown that distance BodyTalk sessions can be just as effective as sessions done in person. In addition, a peer-reviewed research study focusing specifically on distance BodyTalk sessions was published in the Journal of Pain Management, demonstrating the effectiveness of distance BodyTalk in helping people suffering from chronic pain, depression and anxiety. Certified BodyTalk Practitioners and their clients have observed noticeable improvements in all aspects of health – physical, mental, emotional & spiritual – using distance BodyTalk sessions. If you’re interested in reading more about distant healing, one good resource is the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) www.noetic.org

Do I need to believe in BodyTalk or distance sessions for them to work? You do not need to believe in distance BodyTalk sessions for them to work. However, believing in them and keeping an open mind definitely helps. Think of your mind as a receiving station for information. If your mind is closed, resistant or highly doubtful, it will be less receptive to the energy of the session. However, if you keep an open mind and acknowledge that anything is possible – because after all, we’re constantly discovering, evolving and revising our understanding of how the world works – then your mind will be more receptive to the session and therefore more likely to experience benefits.

I had suffered a traumatic experience whilst having an MRI Scan which left me suffering from claustrophobia, which I have since suffered for a number of years.

My youngest son casually said to me one day “how are you going to attend my wedding in Bruges if you won’t fly, go through the tunnel and other half won’t go that far by car”? So I spoke to a healthcare worker and she suggested hypnotherapy as it had cured her.

I made an appointment with Michele and enrolled for a course (5) of “sessions” for the claustrophobia. I only had four sessions and apart from flying (which I haven’t tried yet, but sure I would be ok) I am able to do many things I was unable to do: go in a lift alone, or with other people; I went through channel tunnel no probs; I can shut the door in a room etc.

Following the success from this I asked if they do anything regarding weight loss to which I was advised about Hypnoband and given information to read. In January 2019 I booked for a course (5) of treatment, at this time my weight was in excess of 21 stone. After the third session (3 weeks) I was advised my stomach was now the size of a golf ball and I had during this time lost weight. In all this time I was not hungry as I had previously felt and started making homemade chicken soups, homemade low fat cottage pie, eating plenty of fruit and veg, stopped eating bread and still don’t eat bread, no fast food, still have alcohol but much more reduced.

Today I weigh 16 stone and 4 lbs and all feelings remain unaltered I am still not hungry and listen to the listening aids supplied to me but again not every day as when I started. I am so lucky to have met and been treated by Michele as I believe I would still suffer from claustrophobia and be at least the 21 plus stone that I was. And she will forever have my thanks.

Mr P.J

Struggling with your weight? Do you need help? https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/struggling-with-your-weight-do-you-need-help/ https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/struggling-with-your-weight-do-you-need-help/#respond Mon, 14 May 2018 11:25:18 +0000 https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/?p=1153 Have you thought about seeking help with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy? Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an effective and safe way to help someone ...]]> We can recognise that weight issues can have a broad impact on health and wellbeing in that it can cause physical aspects such as feeling sluggish and tired, aches and pains, as well as psychological issues such as low self-esteem, poor body image, a lack of confidence, feeling low and can lead to lack of motivation or self-worth.

Have you thought about seeking help with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy? Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an effective and safe way to help someone lose weight by allowing them to gain control over their eating habits.

“It’s not a one-off therapy session”, explains Michele. “We work with a client over a number of appointments to help them take control over their eating habits, so they can start to make informed decisions on the food types they choose.”

Michele explains that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works by helping someone to reduce their stress bucket levels.

“We all have our own stress bucket, and, when the levels fill up, we can find ourselves indulging in bad habits, such as comfort eating, to try to cope.”

Hypnosis is used as part of a therapy session to help drop the levels in the stress bucket through a natural process of Rapid Eye Movement (REM), which occurs when we are in a trance state and is a natural part of the sleep cycle.

When REM happens, we effectively start to see that our stress bucket levels drop, which provides a calmer outlook, so allowing the client to take control over some of those pesky cravings, which would otherwise see them reaching for the biscuit tin.

Every session focuses on positive steps taken since the last meeting and both therapist and client work together on what can be done to further help reduce stress by focusing on positive goals – either short term or long term.

The hypnosis part of the session lasts for around 20 minutes and helps the brain to focus on those positive changes for the future, so allowing us to move forwards and notice a real difference.
Michele is a fully-qualified and insured practitioner with a diploma in hypnotherapy, which they gained having studied at The Clifton Practice in Bristol. The Hypnotherapy Practitioner’s Diploma (HPD) is widely regarded as the current “gold standard” in the industry.

Michele is also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), which requires its members to maintain regular supervision sessions and adhere to its high standards of conduct.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can also be used to help someone quit smoking in a one-off session, and aid people to overcome their fears. It can be used in a variety of ways from helping with stress management through to aiding with sleep and improving confidence.

PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP – try BodyTalk Energy Therapy… https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/put-a-spring-in-your-step-try-bodytalk-energy-therapy/ https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/put-a-spring-in-your-step-try-bodytalk-energy-therapy/#respond Tue, 20 Mar 2018 16:41:05 +0000 https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/?p=1124 BodyTalk acknowledges the profound influence the psychology of the body has on our health…seeking to address the “whole person,” so taking into consideration your unique story. The modality is non-invasive and can be very relaxing as well as being therapeutic, incorporating Western and Eastern philosophies. The system recognises the interrelatedness of the mind and body and as such understands the powerful effect that our emotions, experiences, memories, beliefs and environmental factors can have on the way we internalise, communicate and function within our bodymind complex.

The beauty of BodyTalk is that it provides insights into the areas of your bodymind that need attention and in what priority and sequence they need to be addressed. Every choice, every experience in your life, has contributed to your current state of health.

It is, therefore, designed to create a system that is holistic in its health and wellbeing approach, and this may include the necessity to refer a client on to another healthcare practitioner or field of healthcare when necessary.

I began my own journey with BodyTalk Therapy in 2010 when I needed that extra help with my health and wellbeing and found how helpful sessions were for me on a personal basis. This inspired me to train in the therapy and be able to offer this as an alternative complementary healthcare system.

JOIN THE MINDFULNESS WEIGHTLOSS PROGRAMME https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/join-the-mindfulness-weightloss-programme/ https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/join-the-mindfulness-weightloss-programme/#respond Wed, 03 Jan 2018 11:53:36 +0000 https://www.holistichealthpractice.co.uk/?p=1047 Michele Goulding is based in Newport and Monmouth, and one of the ...]]> Mindfulness and a Solution-Focused approach to Weight Management could be the help you need to lose that excess weight. Michele Goulding, a Mindfulness and Solution-Focused Practitioner can explain exactly how the therapy works and how it can help you when you book an initial consultation with her. Included with the full assessment and discussion at the consultation is a Relaxation CD for you to take home with you.

Michele Goulding is based in Newport and Monmouth, and one of the key areas where she can help an individual is improving diet control and so aiding in weight loss.

“In simple terms”, says Michele, “we sometimes find the stresses and strains of everyday life (including our high expectations of ourselves) can see us reaching for foods that may provide what we feel is a quick ‘sugar fix’ but, in doing so, we can also find we are quickly adding to our weight – and of course during the festivities there is a lot of extra food, including a plethora of sugar to help ourselves to.”

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is specifically designed to reduce stress levels and so promote a calmer, more relaxed, attitude towards life. By doing so we are able to make better decisions about what we eat and when we eat it.

“When our ‘stress buckets’ are filling up, specific areas of the brain can sometimes fool us into thinking we need a quick sugar fix when, actually, an apple or banana would be far better for us”, says Michele.

“Therapy focuses the mind away from thinking about problems and any perceived negatives in our lives, and, instead, encourages us to look at solutions and positives. The brain should then stop its ‘emotional eating’ patterns and start to embrace a more healthy diet.”

Each session with Michele lasts for an hour or so and the actual results using the Solution Focused Hypnotherapy model can, in some cases, be fairly fast because people can find they embrace real change within eight to 12 appointments.

The structure of the session is designed to encourage positive thinking during the course of the first 35 minutes or so prior to the actual hypnosis itself – which lasts for around 20 minutes or so.

During this time, Michele, a fully-qualified and insured practitioner guides the client into a state of deep relaxation so their mind can start to feel positive about life and make decisions that are beneficial for them – including eating healthily.

Michele is a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), which sets out to ensure its members adhere to its high standards and code of conduct.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can also be used to help improve confidence and sleep patterns, ease anger and anxiety based issues, and also in focusing someone’s mind on quitting smoking in a single session.

Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy the HypnoBand® is the revoluntionary new weight loss system designed for those who have a high Body Mass Index (BMI). It can help you change your eating habits and help you to achieve your goals.

The key to success is YOU! No weight loss system will work unless you are committed to losing weight. You must be prepared to change your eating habits and lifestyle. If you are totally serious about losing weight then it could work for you. The HYPNO-BAND system provides you with the tools and ability to lose weight and maintain a healthier body.

Each session in the HYPNO-BAND system lasts for one hour and before beginning the process a full assessment will be carried out.

If you are over-weight and really want and are committed to losing weight then this could be suitable for you. The only exception would be if there is a physiological reason for your weight problems or if you are taking certain medications.

Like any medical or therapy procedure there can be no definite guarantees. Even a surgeon cannot guarantee that an actual gastric band will work. It should be reiterated that it is YOU holding the key to losing weight. No system will work if you are not 100% committed. The mind is a very powerful instrument and by using the HYPNO-BAND system you should have the tools and power to change your eating habits. The only way to lose significant amounts of weight is to eat less!

When this happens we can become less able to tell when ...]]> Part of the problem is that the stress we build up in our daily lives, increasing cortisol and adrenaline, (our primitive fight/flight/freeze stress response), can create a tendency to reach for the fat/sugary foods we really don’t need.

Quick sugar-releasing foods provide a quick fix when our stress hormones have increased to a high level and may stay in that ‘alert’ position even when the stress episode has passed. When this happens we can become less able to tell when we are hungry or full and we can find ourselves doing exactly the opposite of what we really want for ourselves.

This extra food intake and over-eating creates even more stress as the calories add up and over time leads to many becoming unhappy with their weight gain as it begins to affect them in many areas of their life.

Of course it is not only what we eat that adds to our storage of excess fat, as other stress-related actions/behaviours can also be the cause. For instance if you are stressed it could affect your sleep patterns, contribute to a lack of motivation to exercise and also be a factor in an increase in alcohol consumption.

Clinical Hypnotherapy provides a solution-focused approach to help stop such self-defeating patterns of behaviour that can have us using food as a panacea when we are presented with what we consider a challenge or conflict, whether in work, socially or within relationships.

Clinical Hypnotherapy encourages positive thinking, helping to realign focus and move us away from emotional reactions and ‘emotional eating’ patterns that have become our default reactions. It is about establishing a change in the way we think about food and the choices we make. It is a lifestyle change, it is not a short-term diet.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist my aim is to help change negative thinking and behaviour patterns and offer support for mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing.

We have now included the Hypno-Band Weight Loss System(R) as one of the therapies we can offer for weight management.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) may be able to help people experiencing certain types of discomfort or chronic pain. When we experience pain, it can be a real drag and things we normally take in our stride can become overwhelming for us and our ability to cope diminishes and has us focusing on the pain itself which may, in turn, increase the discomfort we are experiencing.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is designed to help us to focus on the aspects of our lives that we enjoy and thus increase our ability to cope more effectively with the discomfort. By understanding how our brains work can help us understand better how focusing on the constructive areas of our lives can create an increase in serotonin, which then helps us create space for positive thinking, doing and interaction. By focusing on these three key areas people’s moods can lift, which, in turn, can help ease discomfort.

Therapy can also ease stress, aid in weight management, help with stopping smoking, improve sleep, and allow you to feel calmer and better able to cope with daily life.

If you are concerned about a physical condition, it is important to remember to consult your doctor.
